Music Marketing

    So, recently we did our first case study. We were assigned this research project about record labels and artists within the record labels. When I mention we, I mean the group of four other people and me. Each group was given a genre of music to all under; we were given the genre of alternative. Each member had to study different artists under the genre they were given as a group, someone in my group had done Billie Eilish and Lana Del Ray. And another thing that we each had to take into account was how relevant each band was in the past five years.

    The format for the case study was to find two artists under the same music label with the same genre of music.  My two artists were the bands Coldplay and Weezer when they were under the music label of Atlantic Records. The music label was the least of anyone’s concern as the case study was more about the artists we chose, so I started out with that. All I had to do was a basic background check upon Atlantic Records and some well-known artists under the label. However, the case study for my two bands was definitely more in depth.

    I learned a lot about each of my bands I went into depth about. I have heard of both Coldplay and Weezer as a band, though I only listened to an older song of Weezer’s once. When I searched through each band, I learned a toon about them. Did you know that one of the band member’s wives in Weezer was recently arrested for allegedly shooting a 9mm at the police. Neither did I, and I do not think I wanted to know. Either way, I quickly learned how popular each band is for a reason. Coldplay is most known for being very supportive of liberal ideas, having supported the democratic president Obama and the LGBTQ+ community.  Weezer as a band is popular for inspiring many emo themed bands despite being known for being a very nerdy type of band.
